Disvoiced [Autoportrait]

Disvoiced [Autoportrait] is an installation for a group of loudspeakers driven at sub-sonic frequencies, creating a silent ballet of moving speaker cones.

The paradox of a loudspeaker dispossessed of its sonic function brings forth the idea of silenced expression.

The loudspeakers appear as tragicomic characters, acting as a personal metaphor for the unvoiced thoughts and silenced shouts that populate our minds.

The piece is political: at a time where art seems to have lost its ability to propose alternatives and utopias, I feel dispossessed of my voice, unable to make myself heard.

Otso Lähdeoja is an omnidirectional researcher of all things sonic.
A nomad between multiple faces and places, he carefully crafts his patterns of sound and thought in between salient categories, in yet uncolonized territories. “Imagination grows from the unknown. Unmapped territories present the possibility for something else to be imagined. At the anthropocene, with all lands conquered, every mountain climbed, every species named and indexed; – where is the horizon of our imagination?” http://otsola.org
