What starts off siren like, (an alarm perhaps for things to come), then sounds reminiscent of a call to prayer. It sprawls along at a hypnotic pace unraveling like a lullaby; it is not sure what it is; something in-between. At times the vocals are distorted as the singer is slapped around the face and tapped on her voice box.
Expeller lies at the threshold of pain and power, with a disturbing haunting quality. Expeller expresses the idea of grief via keening and brings those deeply personal moments into the public realm. It explores how grief can be unpredictable and all encompassing.
I interview people regarding their altered state experiences-moments when one loses one’s sense of self and re imagine these stories into art works.

I am researching the notion of syncope – moments where people temporarily ‘loose themselves’.
I conduct interviews where people describe in depth their altered state experiences, which can vary in nature from out of body experiences, hallucinating, sleep disorders, alcoholism, epileptic seizures, grief and reaching enlightenment through meditation. These stories provide a truly unique set of research topics on which I base my art practice. This has resulted in work that has re imagined these events through sound, writing, songs, film, print making and performance.
