The Engine Room presents: No Home, FROST, and Chris Tosic for an evening of sonic experimentation that pushes at the boundaries of sound art and music.
No Home is the London based artist, Charlotte Valentine who has been making music for almost a decade. Described as a ‘punk producer’ and ‘DIY experimental artist’ by the Wire Magazine, their first album “Fucking Hell”, a mix of noise rock and pop, was released in June 2020 and was named one of the “The 35 Best Rock Albums of 2020” by Pitchfork. Their second and most recent album, “Young Professional” was released in November 2022. They have collaborated with artists such as SASAMI and Maria BC and played with artists such as Moor Mother and Big Joanie. Their work has been written about in Crack Magazine, NPR and The Wire amongst others.
Dale Frost AKA FROST’s work explores the intersection between live drumming and experimental electronic music. Using an interconnected setup of drum kit, sampler, and delay/looping devices, his live set explores fractured polyrhythms, displaced beats, and glitched loops. Drawing inspiration equally from electronica, post-rock, and jazz, the focus is on expanding a unique rhythmic vocabulary, blending the synthetic with the organic, and pushing the boundaries of live electronic performance from behind a drum kit.
In addition to self-releasing his own records, he has recently collaborated with electronic musician Gold Panda and noise/spoken word collective Benefits.
Tosic is a visual artist living and working in London. He has developed a practice that explores ideas of repetition, silence and time. His most recent drawings focus on granular micro/macro patterns within a grid structure. Applying this to his own field recordings Tosic will perform a live composition in the spirit of Curtis Roads’ ‘EmissionControl2’ but using ‘Borderlands Granular’ software on an iPad.
The performance recording will be time stamped and available at www.soundcloud.com/chris_tosic
